1. Is my car safe to drive until a modification is available?

In rare instances there is a possibility that certain accelerator pedal mechanisms may return slowly to the idle position or stick in a partially depressed position.

2. What do I do if I experience a sticking accelerator pedal before the modification is available?

In the event that you experience an accelerator pedal that sticks in a partial open throttle position or returns slowly to idle position, the vehicle can be controlled with firm and steady application of the brakes. The brakes should not be pumped repeatedly because it could deplete vacuum assist, requiring stronger brake pedal pressure. The vehicle should be driven to the nearest safe location, the engine shut off and a Toyota dealer contacted for assistance.

3. What is the actual issue affecting accelerator pedals? (in layman's terms)

In rare instances there is a possibility that certain accelerator pedal mechanisms may return slowly to the idle position or stick in a partially depressed position.

4. Is there actually a problem with the vehicle's computer/Electronic Control Unit?

Absolutely not. Toyota has never found an incident of unintended acceleration caused by the vehicle's computer/electronic control unit.

Toyota will work with customers who have concerns about their vehicles on a case-by-case basis.

The sticking accelerator pedal recall is separate from the on-going campaigns involving certain Toyota and Lexus vehicles to reduce the risk of pedal entrapment by incorrect or out of place accessory floor mats.

It is Toyota's intention to remedy both as soon as possible.

9. Why are mechanically similar Lexus and Scion vehicles not affected by this recall?

The recall affected accelerator pedal is not used on Lexus and Scion vehicles.

Toyota's accelerator pedal recall and suspension of sales is confined to the following Toyota Division vehicles:

• 2009-2010 RAV4,
• 2009-2010 Corolla,
• 2009-2010 Matrix,
• 2005-2010 Avalon,
• Certain 2007-2010 Camry,
• 2010 Highlander,
• 2007-2010 Tundra,
• 2008-2010 Sequoia

No Lexus Division or Scion vehicles are affected by these actions. Also not affected are Toyota Prius, Tacoma, Sienna, Venza, Solara, Yaris, 4Runner, FJ Cruiser, and select Camry models, including all Camry hybrids.
